FAQ’S

  • Will the massage hurt?

Massage despite what a lot of therapists say shouldn’t be painful to the point where you are tensing up.

  • Does Deep Tissue Hurt?

Deep tissue massage may have a slight discomfort but should still be at a level that is still enjoyable for you. It should “Hurt so good” as we like to say. That’s where the massage can be effective and therapeutic yet still relaxing and enjoyable. This allows for the best results. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be areas you need to breathe through. If you’re tensing up that means it’s too much pressure. Even if you say “I can handle it” your muscles should not be tensing up. It’s counterproductive.

  • Do I have to be completely undressed?

Most people get completely undressed to allow for maximum benefit. We do not undrape clothed areas. However, if you are uncomfortable with that leaving your underwear on is perfectly fine. You will be in between 2 sheets and there is a blanket on top as well for comfort, security, and warmth.

  • Can I talk during my massage?

You should feel comfortable talking or not talking during your session. We have clients that talk every time, never and some that talk for a little bit in the beginning and then are quite for the rest of the session. The therapist will need more communication from you, during the session, on the first visit to check in on pressure and let you know of any new findings.

  • Do I have to listen to flutes and oceans during my session?

At Massage Customs we allow you choose your music. We don’t decide what you consider relaxing. We use Pandora currently which allows you to pick an artist or genre of music that best suits you. Clients have listened to Reggae, R&B, Drake, Pantera and the list goes on. We can get you your own station for maximum relaxation.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on your individual needs. Our goal is to get you to a point where you are coming in not because you need but because you want to. We have had a lot of success helping people to reach a point where they are not overly distressed and in pain. This is accomplished best by being more frequently early on and backing off slowly as your body holds onto the new changes longer.

Depending on how fast you want to feel your best it could take anywhere from 1-2 times a week in the beginning or we may find you’re feeling good enough to be in the maintenance phase of once a month. We will assess that with you on your first visit.

  • How will I feel after my massage?

This does vary on an individual basis. However If you do not get massage regularly then I would expect to be sore for a day or 2 after. Being sore for 3,4,5 days may indicate that pressure needs to lighten up on the next visit.

  • Will I be covered?

You will be fully covered during your session. You’ll be in between 2 sheets with a blanket on top. This is non-negotiable. The area that the therapist is working on will be uncovered and draped properly for modesty.

  • How long will my massage last?

We do full 60 minute, 90 minute and 120 minute sessions. We have a 15 minute block after every session to be able to check out your service, show you package options and reschedule your next appointment.

  • How soon will I see results?

Results vary on an individual basis. We want to progress on every visit. We want you to get a little better every time you come in. Most issues didn’t happen in an hour and won’t be resolved in an hour. Occasionally there is a miracle, but for most it takes 4-12 sessions to be pain free if you’re frequent.

This is a process. Not an event.

  • What’s your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours cancellation to avoid a charge for you appointment.

Same day cancellation is 50% of service total. No call no show is 100% charge.

When we book your appointment we turn away everyone else who wanted that appointment. We ask for 24 hours cancellation because that gives us enough to rebook the session. With Same day cancellations we have a small window to rebook the spot but you will not be charged if we can rebook the session.

No call no shows are charged without exception.

  • Do you sell gift cards?

Yes we do. You can go to massagecustoms.com and click the “buy gift card link” at the top. We do also have physical cards at our location for sale, however we do not have a full time front desk so please call ahead so we can be ready for you to come in.

  • Can I get a massage if I am already in pain?

Yes. When you’re in pain is a great time to get a massage. We do suggest that you come in before you’re in pain, or when you first start feeling tightness and pain coming on so we help your body STAY feeling good. It’s much easier to keep you feeling good then to get you feeling good.

  • Can I get a massage when I am pregnant?

Yes. Prenatal massage has many great benefit for the mom and baby. We allow our therapist to decide if they will perform first trimester massages. If you are high risk we will need a doctor note and it’s always a good idea to consult with your doctor about prenatal massages especially if you aren’t already getting massages.
